Lesson Progress:

Scapula - End-Range Control

  • Video Length: 16 minutes
  • Class Length: 12-14 minutes

The scapulae, more commonly known as the shoulder blades, are two large, flat bones that sit on the back of the ribcage. The scapula and clavicle (collar bone) together make up the shoulder girdle. The girdle is where the arm attaches to the body, making up the shoulder complex. In order to have optimal functioning of your arms, you need to have movement freedom and control of the scapulae. The scapula is not your typical joint – it is held to, yet separated from, the ribcage by connective tissue and muscles, allowing for motion in all directions. Without a strong, mobile scapula, the shoulder and arm cannot perform to its full potential.

This class is beneficial for:

  • Assessment findings:
    • Limitations in scapula protraction or global range of motion
    • Compensations throughout scapula CARs
  • Upper body dominant athletes/occupations
  • Office/desk workers
  • History of shoulder pain/dysfunction

Proceed with caution if:

  • Current shoulder injury
  • Previous shoulder surgery
