Juicy Portobello Burgers
Prep time: 25 mins
Grill time: 10 mins
Why should you try these instead of regular burgers?
1- Because they taste like regular burgers!
2-There is no risk of undercooking. Plus, eating less meat and more healthy plant-based foods can help reduce the incidence of chronic preventable diseases,
3-Light on your wallet. Mushrooms are cheaper than beef.
4-Mushrooms are low in calories, have virtually no fat and no cholesterol, and are very low in sodium. Three ounces of raw mushrooms, about 1 cup, provide 1 to 2 grams of protein. Mushrooms contain an indigestible carbohydrate called chitin that contributes “bulk” to our diet.
No meat on Mondays, it’s a thing. –
Meatless Monday is a global movement that encourages people to reduce meat in their diet for their health and the health of the planet. The campaign was started in 2003 by Sid Lerner, the Founder of The Monday Campaigns, in association with the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future.
What do you need?
Ingredients (we eyeballed it):
- ~3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- ~2 tbsp soy sauce
- ~2 tbsp Olive Oil
- 1 tbsp Pepper
- .5 tsp Salt
Step 1. Remove mushroom stems.
Step 2. Combine balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, oil, salt & pepper. Marinate mushrooms in sauce at room temperature for 20-25mins
Step 3. Grill on med heat. Until there are grill marks ~5 mins on each side. Turn over only once.
Step 4. Dress it however you like. We like avocados, because they are creamy and replace some fat that you’d normally get from meat. They are so juicy, they don’t really need typical burger condiments.
