EASY BREAD (4 INGREDIENTS, NO DUTCH OVEN!)

EASY BREAD - 4 INGREDIENTS, NO DUTCH OVEN NEEDED!

Ingredients

 
  • 3 cups (450g) of bread flour (all purpose works too)
  • 2 1/4 tsp. quick yeast (or traditional yeast) 
  • 1 tsp. salt 
  • 1. 5 cups of warm water
Parchment paper and cling wrap are used in this recipe.

This recipe uses 2 baking sheets (no dutch oven necessary).

You can use a dutch oven if you prefer. (we do) Simply preheat oven at 450 with dutch oven inside, then bake 30 mins with the lid on, then remove the lid for the last 8-10 mins.

Mix dry ingredients (flour, yeast*, salt) in a mixing bowl.

*If using traditional yeast, mix yeast and warm water first, then add flour and salt once it starts to bubble.

Add the warm water GENTLY mixing with a rubber spatula. That’s right, NO KNEADING required!

No knead (:p) to over mix, just enough to make a shaggy mess.

Cover with cling wrap and leave in a warm place for about 3 hours. If the bread hasn’t expanded after 1 hour, it’s too cold, in the winter place it somewhere warmer (like by the heater).

Once the dough has expanded to about double the size, you can bake right away or refrigerate for up to 3 days.

When you’re ready to bake, scoop the dough into a ball like blob on a parchment paper-lined, floured, baking sheet.

Use scissors to score the bread. ( I just snip 3 lines on the top.

Preheat the oven to 450F. Place a rimmed baking sheet or cast iron pan on the lowest grill .

Right before you put the bread in the oven, pour about 3 cups of water into the pan. (this will create a dutch oven effect)

Bake for 40 Mins

'Knock Knock'
You'll know the bread is done when you knock on the bottom and it sounds like a knock on the door.

Remove the bread from the oven and place it on a cooling rack.  Wait at least 5 mins before cutting into the bread.
