Lesson Progress:

Knee Rotation - End-Range Control

  • Video Length: 22 minutes
  • Class Length: 12-17 minutes

This class focuses on the movement that is fundamental to knee health – rotation. Rotation occurs at the joint between the femur and tibia. Knee rotation is one of the most common mechanisms of knee injuries, including ACL and meniscus injuries. Knee rotation is also very important for bringing nutrient into the joint for joint health and reducing joint degeneration. However, training to increase knee rotation for injury prevention or rehabilitation is often neglected. In this call we will be training knee rotation to increase knee joint capacity and resilience.

This class is beneficial for:

  • Assessment findings:
    • Limited knee (tibial) rotation
    • Hip or ankle compensations while performing knee CARs
  • Athletics which require running, jumps, or cutting motions
  • A history of knee injuries/dysfunctions

Proceed with caution if:

  • Acute knee pain
  • knee ‘locking’ or ‘catching’
  • History of recent ACL tear or repair*
  • Diagnosed meniscus tear*
  • Closing angle joint limitation or pain*

*This class may be helpful, but it is highly recommended to proceed with caution; start with regressions at low intensities and progress gradually if you feel comfortable doing so. It is seek professional guidance.
