Lesson Progress:

Ankle Dorsiflexion – End-Range Control

  • Video Length: 21 minutes
  • Class Length: 12-15 minutes

Do you experience ankle pain or discomfort with walking or running? Do you have “bad form” with squats of lunges? Do you experience persistent calf tightness that just won’t go away? A limitation in dorsiflexion at the ankle joint may be the culprit. Limitations of the ankle can manifest as “tight calves” and may contribute to a number of issues higher up the kinetic chain, including knee, hip and low back pain.

In this Kinstretch Express Class, we expand ankle dorsiflexion range and control to build more resilient ankles and a better foundation for the rest of your body to function on.

This class is beneficial for:

  • Assessment findings:
    • Limitation in, or compensations with, ankle dorsiflexion during CARs
  • Active individuals (walking, running, squatting, lunging etc.)
  • Those while chronic calf tightness.
  • Those who are prone to ankle injuries.

Proceed with caution if:

  • Previous Achilles tendon rupture/surgery
  • Achilles tendon pain (ex. tendonitis)
  • Closing angle limitation or “pinch” in front of the ankle with dorsiflexion*

*This class may be helpful, but it is highly recommended to proceed with caution; start with regressions at low intensities and progress gradually if you feel comfortable doing so.
